Kosoff, A. THE T. JAMES CLARKE COLLECTION UNITED STATES LARGE CENTS AND THE THOMAS G. MELISH CATALOGUE. New York: April 21, 1956; Indianapolis: April 27-28, 1956. 8vo, original padded brown leatherette, gilt, in slipcase as issued. (6), 107, (1) pages; 2639 lots; 13 plates; printed prices realized. Inscribed by Abe Kosoff to John J. Pittman. Slipcase bumped; near fine. [with] Kosoff, A., and Abner Kreisberg [Numismatic Gallery]. THE OUTSTANDING COLLECTION OF UNITED STATES LARGE CENTS FORMED BY MR. OSCAR J. PEARL, NEW YORK CITY. FOR SALE AT FIXED PRICES. New York: Numismatic Gallery, 1944. 4to, later orange cloth, gilt. 24, xl pages; 479 listings; 16 plates of Pearl large cents; 7 other plates. Inscribed to Ken Lowe by Frank & Laurese Katen. Fine. Adams 87 and 88. John Pittman's inscribed copy of the Special Library Edition of the Clarke & Melish catalogues. Limited to 200 copies, of which this is No. 173. According to Del Bland, none of the coins in the sale actually belonged to Melish, Kosoff having paid Melish's widow for the privilege of using his name. The gold belonged to R.E. Naftzger, Jr. This binding of the Pearl catalogue was done for Frank Katen and should not be confused with the hardcover edition produced by Kosoff. Ex Cardinal Collection Library.
