Complete Mehl's Coin Circular
Mehl, B. Max. MEHL'S COIN CIRCULAR. Nos. 1-15, complete. Fort Worth, 1921-1933. Fifteen issues bound in one volume. 24mo [15 by 11 cm], slightly later blue cloth; black leather spine label, gilt. Most issues self-covered as issued; those numbers with separate covers have them bound in. Spine label a bit worn, else near fine. A complete set; rarely encountered (this may well be the only complete set we've ever sold). An interesting, physically unpretentious though verbally bombastic, publication. It is perhaps best epitomized by Mehl's proemium: "This little publication is not a 'labor of love,' nor it is issued to fill a 'long felt want.' It is an out and out little house organ for a big business. It will list all special offers, new items of interest in connection with my business and bits of interesting numismatic news. I intend to issue it every month, but am making no definite promises. And as there will be no charge for it, I feel that if it is a few days or a month late, I won't owe you anything. And since it won't cost you anything, you are sure of getting your money's worth." Ex Stack's Library (December 10-11, 1988 Kolbe/Spink New York Sale), lot 104; ex Phil Carrigan Library (Kolbe & Fanning Sale 153, lot 417); ex Cardinal Collection Library.
