Mercer, R.W. THE COLLECTOR'S GUIDE. Volume I, No. 1 (Cincinnati, July 1, 1881). Small 8vo, original printed paper covers. 8 pages. Errata slip tipped in. Folded for mailing; very good or better. Bourne 1880-5. Rare, despite Mercer's plans to distribute 1000 copies. "Published quarterly as a cheap advertising medium in the interests of all bonafide collectors and dealers in Coins, Medals, Stamps, etc. Indian Relics, Minerals, Fossils, Curiosities, and all Bric-a-brack." This is the only issue of which we have found any verified record; Bourne states that a second issue was published, apparently citing the Bibliotheca Lindesiana, where such is suggested--though Bacon, the compiler, noted that this rarity was not present in the Crawford Library. Until a copy turns up, we are inclined to think it a singleton. Crawford 508. Ex M. Bourne Library.
