New York Coin & Stamp Company Sales
New York Coin & Stamp Company. AUCTION SALE CATALOGUES. Twenty-two auction catalogues, including Adams Nos. 1-5 and 7-23, being a complete set of the firm's catalogues except for the 1892 Woodside catalogue, represented in this sale by the plated copy below. New York, 1888-1908. Mostly 8vo, in original printed paper or card covers; Sale 3 (Davis) is 4to in original printed paper covers. Sale 4 (Parmelee) is bound in green cloth, gilt. Sale 5 is bound in blue cloth, gilt. Sales 11 & 16 are bound together in blue cloth, gilt. Sales 7, 19, 20 and 22 are hand-priced throughout. Occasional pricing can be found throughout other sales. Sales 3 and 4 both includes sets of reprint plates. Sale 18 lacks covers; one or two other rear covers are missing. Condition varies, but is generally very good. Adams 1-5 and 7-23. A nearly complete set of the New York Coin & Stamp Company catalogues. Comprehensive runs of the firm's sales are rarely encountered. The New York Coin & Stamp Company was a partnership formed by two experienced numismatists, David Proskey and Harlan Page Smith, in 1888, and which lasted until the latter's death in 1902, after which Proskey continued solo for several years. In addition to their famous sales of the Robert Coulton Davis and Lorin G. Parmelee collections, the series is notable for Doughty and Woodside's patterns, both Ropes sales featuring choice large cents, and the Wynn, Mumford, "Richard," Smack & Nightingale, and Bridgham collections. Ex Cardinal Collection Library.
