Sixteen catalogues, including list Nos. 1-2, 10, 13, 15, 24-27 and 29-34. 24mo, original printed card covers. [with] St. Louis Stamp & Coin Co. SPECIAL BARGAIN LISTS. St. Louis, undated. Two catalogues, being Nos. 14 and 15. 26 by 13 cm, self-covered, as issued. Generally near fine, with a few exceptions. Very scarce. Originally owned by F.E. Ellis, Burdette G. Johnson and D.A. Sutherland purchased the firm in 1907 and Johnson became sole owner the following year. A dealer's dealer, Johnson marketed his extensive stock via auctions (until 1915), the series of price lists offered here, and primarily, through private transactions. Bourne pages 115-117. The 1906 Rice sale was the highlight of the early period. It featured nearly 300 lots of cents, including eight 1793s, a very fine 1799 and an "Unc." 1804. His half cents included nearly twenty proofs from 1831 to 1856. Adams also notes "Excellent Jackson tokens," mint state 1796 & 1797 half dollars, etc. Two of the plates depict copper.
