1940s Stack's Catalogues
Stack's. AUCTION SALE CATALOGUES. New York, 1941-1950. A group of 57 auction catalogues, constituting all of the sales held by this firm during these years. Present here are Adams numbers 49-105, complete. 8vo, all in original printed card or paper covers. A handful with prices realized lists or hand-priced. Generally very good or better. Adams 49-105. The Stack's catalogues from the 1940s are frequently just as scarce as the ones from the 1930s. Important sales include the 1941 Giacomo Opezzo sale, a well-rounded sale spanning antiquity through modern U.S. issues. The 1944 Flanagan sale featured the first appearance at auction of "the excessively rare 1933 double eagle," a "perfect gem," but it was confiscated by the United States Government before the sale. The 1945 Hall collection is among the most important early Stack's sales, featuring superb gold. Ex Cardinal Collection Library.
(Estimate: $300)
