[Brand, Virgil]. FILE FOLDER OF VARIOUS MATERIALS RELATING TO THE VIRGIL BRAND COLLECTION. Files compiled by John J. Ford, Jr. See comments. Generally fine or nearly so. An interesting assemblage, including: List of Rarities, a 35-page photostatic reproduction of choice American and foreign coins and medals, described in an attached note written by John Ford as a "List--From E.P. Newman, ex B.G. Johnson, 9/58, Marked 'H.L. Brand' et al." and featuring choice American and foreign coins, each described under columns headed "App'd Value, Date, Country, Denomination, Description, Cond., and Ser. No."; Rarities Still on Hand, a similar 21-page photostatic reproduction described by Ford as a "List--From E.P. Newman, ex B.G. Johnson, 9/58, Marked--'Rarities--on hand ending December 31, 1938 with A.W. Brand'"; original Horace Brand duplicated typescripts, comprising "Descriptive List of United States and Foreign Rarities, Collection A-1" (9 leaves, annotated with prices, and items sold, including the names of a few purchasers), "Descriptive List of United States and Foreign Rarities, Collection B-1" (3 leaves, annotated with several prices and the names of two purchasers), "United States Very Great Rarities Collection #20" (one leaf), "United States Rarities, Collection #22" (3 leaves, annotated with several prices and the names of a purchaser), and a carbon copy "Descriptive List of Canada Rarities Collection--28R" (1 leaf, annotated with several prices and availability); a January 17, 1982 New York Times article entitled "Coin Auction May Bring $10 Million"; Ford's carbon copy of a note sent to Mike B. Zeddies on a $5 National Bank note signed by Michael Brand, with two photocopies of the note; a fascinating article from Coins and Medals, June 1967 by L.S. Forrer entitled "Collectors I Have Known"; and 1967 correspondence with Leonard Forrer and Heather Salter, Deputy Editor of Coins and Medals, requesting permission to reprint the article describing Spink's long and fruitful relationship with Virgil Brand.
