Complete Set of a Very Rare Raymond Publication
United States Coin Company. THE UNITED STATES COIN CO. BULLETIN. Volumes I and II (New York, 1914-1915), complete. 8vo, modern dark blue half morocco, gilt, with marbled sides; spine with two raised bands, ruled and lettered in gilt. Erratically paginated. Near fine copies in a handsome fine binding. One of the rarest 20th-century numismatic periodicals issued by a major dealer. A complete consists of Nos. 1-12 of the first volume followed by Nos. 1-4 of the second, but those 12 numbers of the first volume comprise only seven physical issues (including an anemic 8-page issue that somehow constitutes Nos. 7-10), while the four numbers of the second volume comprise three issues. Basically a selling vehicle with healthy listings of coins for sale in each issue, along with interesting commentary, much of it devoted to overviews of upcoming sale and reports on sales just concluded. A number of notable items are offered, including an 1849 Oregon Exchange Co. $5, a 1766 Pitt token, a 1737 Higley threepence, a 1794 silver dollar, Earle's "barely circulated" chain cent, uncirculated 1805 25¢, etc. Ex Charles Davis auction of November 16, 2013, lot 124; ex Cardinal Collection Library.
(Estimate: $750)
