A Plated Dietrich-Morgan Sale
Woodward, W. Elliot. CATALOGUE OF THE NUMISMATIC COLLECTIONS OF FRANK DIETRICH, OF HARRISBURG, PENN. AND S.H. MORGAN OF LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY. New York, April 19-21, 1882. 8vo, original printed paper covers. 76 pages; 1900 lots; 2 fine heliotype plates. Printed on thick paper. Rear cover detached and badly chipped; removed from previous binding. Good to very good. Adams 46, with plates. Rare: one of fifty copies issued with plates, though few seem to have survived. Seldom offered. The two plates mostly depict rare Hard Times tokens, along with two 1793 cents, a few rare United States silver coins, and a few other tokens. In a lengthy introduction to the Hard Times token section, Woodward provides previously unpublished background information on the manufacture of the series and, for the first time ever, provides illustrations for many of the tokens. Davis 1168 ("No sale recorded.") Ex Cardinal Collection Library.
(Estimate: $250)
