† ISLAMIC COINS. BURID. Abaq (534-549h), overlords Great Saljuq Sanjar and Iraq Saljuq Mas'ud together with the Abbasid Caliph al-Muqtafi, Gold Dinar, Dimashq 538h, 3.54g (A A784). Good very fine, very rare.
Damascus was the westernmost extension of Saljuq power. The Burids were an ephemeral dynasty which lasted for no more than half a century. Surprisingly their coinage, while resembling that of their contemporaries the Fatimids, bore legends that were purely Sunni, acknowledging the Abbasid Caliph al-Muqtafi and their Great Saljuq overlords Sanjar and Iraq Saljuq Mas'ud.
