ISLAMIC COINS. DYNASTY UNCERTAIN. al-'Abbas b. Ja'far, Silver Dirham, Marw 336h, obv field: name of governor, rev field: al-Muti' lillah, 3.46g (unrecorded, see A 1437). Edge weakness, good very fine and extremely rare.
No coinage is recorded from Marw at this time, and the status of its political governance is unclear. Searching for a clue to the origins of al'Abbas, he might have been the son of Ja'far bin Ahmad who is known to have struck coins in Khuttal between the years 310h and 313h. Ja'far himself had an uncertain relationship with the Banijurid or Abu-Da'udid dynasty.
Estimate: £400-500
