A proof for this 19th century private issue. Renniks notes that this bank was founded in London in 1852 and opened its first Australian branch the following year. It would remain in business until 1970 when it merged with the ANZ bank to form the Australia and New Zealand Banking Group. Issued survivors of this bank are rare; proofs such as this are a more affordable alternative. PMG mentions "Signature cut out; previously mounted."
