Iraq 1931 P-1a PMG Very Fine 25 1/4 Dinar
First Pick number for the country of Iraq. A prefix and first signature combination of Askari - Young - Hornsby. 700,000 printed but virtually all circulated extensively and were later withdrawn. As (infrequent) auction offerings and the PMG population report indicate this is a rare issue regardless of grade. PMG mentions a tear but it is very minimal and limited to the upper right margin (in fact, we have seen larger tears not being mentioned by PMG on other notes) and is not distracting, while the paper quality remains strong otherwise. Much originality remains and this example is free of writing, restorations or other issues commonly associated with early Iraq banknotes. This design has the classic portrait of King Faisal I at right. This series was introduced into circulation in 1932, starting the extremely important and collectable series of banknotes issued under the Iraqi monarchy. Despite it being the initial denomination nice circulated examples such as this are very rare, and this is one of the nicest 25's you will ever see. PMG mentions "Tear".
