Iraq 1.7.1931 P-3a PMG About UNC 55 1 Dinar
The first series of Iraq was introduced in 1931 and featured the portrait of King Faisal I at right. Faisal I was King of Iraq from 1921 until his death in 1933. During the later years of his reign the first Iraqi banknotes were introduced for circulation in the countries, of which this is a very high grade example of the 1 Dinar. Printed by Bradbury, Wilkinson & Co. in England this denomination saw extensive use at the time of issue and high grades are very scarce today. This example has the first (of two) signature combinations, Young, al Askari, Hornsby, and was only issued in 1931 (the second signature combination is dated 1932. Original paper is seen in the holder, but some minor foxing in the margins unfortunately prevents the EPQ designation. Regardless, this is a very pleasing example of this popular type that would be very difficult to improve grade-wise.
