MONOGRAPHS . [Berlin] Julius Friedlaender and Alfred von Sallet, Das Königliche Münzkabinet. Geschichte und Übersicht der Sammlung nebst erklärender Beschreibung der auf schautischen ausgelegten Auswahl. Berlin 1877, 2nd revised edition. 8vo (16x23.5cm), 36 pages, 11 plates hinged in. Rebacked, green imitation leather, gilt spine letters, dedication to M. Feuardent from the authors. Covers lightly damp-stained at fore-edge, interior Good to Very Good. CS 16538

A note from BCD: The attractive engravings of this early volume remind us that when it comes to the great rarities in the Greek series, the Berlin collection is probably the best in the world. It is also interesting to note that ten years before Head came up with his first edition of Historia Numorum and the cataloguing order that has since been universally adopted, Friedländer and von Sallet did not lay out their catalogue geographically but in what they apparently thought was an order of importance, beginning with the coinages of Mainland Greece.
