A note from BCD: In the light of today's huge influx of Alexander type drachms, this part of a hoard, of the same (Asia Minor) provenance, acquires a new meaning. One theory is that returning soldiers from Alexander's army were carrying with them their retirement funds in such drachms and that a great number of them never made it home! But in numismatics it is dangerous to simplify matters and fall prey to romantic tales...
