A note from BCD: The three early lists are the only ones not illustrated but they reward the reader with Gans's commentary on various numismatic topics. The quality and variety of Ancient and World coins offered amazes today's reader. It is said that he abandoned the issuing of printed auction catalogues after sale 16 because he was not happy with the photography. A perfectionist in every sense of the word and not only a superb numismatist but an outstanding personality with a great sense of humour.
