AUCTION CATALOGUES and FIXED PRICE LISTS . Hess, Adolph. Frankfurt, 21 June 1886. Sammlung des Herrn H.G. Gutekunst, Stuttgart: Griechische & Römische Münzen, Renaissance-Portrait-Münzen, Artistische Medaillen & Plaquettes, Italienische, Deutsche u.a. Arbeiten des XV.-XVIII Jahrhunderts. 962 lots, 52 pages, photocopy of prices realized list. (15x22cm), recent mauve synthetic binding, dark red spine letters, original card cover affixed to front board, back cover with inlaid illustration, extra pages bound in. Brittle paper, some pages loose, interior Fair to Good.

A note from BCD: A well described collection, as is the case with all early Hess catalogues. Weights are given to one decimal for the Greek coins and this allows us to note some oddities like an Opuntii "tetradrachm" weighing 18.7 g. The cataloguer also has a habit of calling the hemidrachms drachms and the drachms didrachms. Still, considering that weights allow us to pinpoint possible provenances, this catalogue was way ahead of its time and can prove to be very useful.
Schätzung: EUR 25
