Elizabeth II, gold proof five hundred pounds, 2021, milled edge variety, from The Great Engravers Series, commemorating the Gothic crown obverse by William Wyon, ELIZABETH II D. G. REG. F. F. 500 POUNDS 2021, head r., wearing tiara, rev. the obverse of the Gothic crown, young, crowned bust of Victoria l., wt. 10oz. Weighing twice as much as the other five hundred pounds issue also created by the Royal Mint. It was originally designated 'piedfort' but as the diameter is different to that of the 'standard' thickness example seen in lot 135, the Standard Catalogue suggests that the terming is incorrect. Nevertheless, the coin is 10oz. of gold.
