FOR LIVERPOOL OR PRESTON STUDENTS., within beaded border, J. B. BIRKBECK NOV. 1881, 30mm; 19.25g, lightly nailmarked and with some scratches, otherwise with a proof-like obverse field, about extremely fine and rare. In original case of issue with only minor surface wear to edges.
John Barrass Birkbeck (1831-1917)
Born in Shiney Row, County Durham in 1831; died in County Durham 1917. Composed anthems including 'It is a good thing to give thanks' (1898) and 'Arise, shine O Zion' (1911), hymn, tunes and songs.
