Bronze enkolpion. Byzantine, 11th–12th centuries AD. Sealed enkolpion with hanging loop and a section of the original chain attached. Both faces of the cross are engraved with elaborate designs. Face A: A large figure of Christ standing behind Ss. Peter, Paul, and Mary. Face B: Christ standing facing. Dimensions of cross: 50x88mm; total length of chain: 22.6cm. Dark green patina with sandy overtones. A few tiny areas of active corrosion in need of treatment. Rare and very desirable with portion of original chain.
