Tunisia, Beylik of Tunis. 'Abdul Mejid I (Sultan of the Ottoman Empire) with Muhammed Bey AV 100 Piastres. Tunis mint, AH 1277 = AD 1861. Sultan name in three lines within wreath / Bey name, mint, Arabic date and denomination within wreath. KM 130; Friedberg 1. 19.74g, 33mm, 12h.

On the basis of archived documents from the Tunis Mint, A. Fenina determined that the mintage of the 100 piastres coin did not exceed 220 pieces in the year AH 1277. It thus appears to have been a presentational issue, of which most were no doubt subsequently melted.
