The reverse of this coin illustrates the goddess Ceres seeking the path by which her daughter Proserpina was taken down to Hades. The cult of Ceres and Proserpina was of the greatest importance in Southern Italy, and given that this gens is reputed to have come from Bruttium it is therefore not unexpected that Ceres should figure prominently on its coinage.
