Grove 70b VAR – Guadalupe Victoria, 1824. XF Bronce dorado. La mítica medalla al mérito y patriotismo de Guadalupe Victoria, en honor al primer presidente de la Nación, diseño y obra de José María Guerrero, quien fue grabador de la Casa de Moneda de México y estuvo a cargo de la elaboración de las primeras monedas conocidas como "Águila de Perfil", hecho que se ve reflejado en el diseño de esta pieza. Anverso con busto uniformado de atuendo militar mirando a la derecha, por reverso el escudo de armas finamente ejecutado y de familiar diseño ostentando el águila de perfil posada sobre el nopal mirando a la derecha, al exterior la leyenda "J. GUERRERO DIBUJO Y GRABO EN MEXICO. A. DE 1824 Y LA DEDICA AL MERITO Y PATRIOTISMO DEL MISMO S.E.", ligeras marcas y grietas de cospel reverso, rayones, golpecitos en canto y limaduras, ligeramente descubierta del dorado en puntos altos. Una pieza de importante contexto y valor histórico, pudiendo ser considerada como la primera medalla acuñada de la República Mexicana. Tenemos conocimiento de un segundo ejemplar en este acabado subastado por Ponterio & Associates en su subasta #109 bajo el lote No. 434 con múltiples golpes en canto, marcas y rayones. 41 milímetros de diámetro, 34.1 gramos de peso

"Gilded bronze. The mythical medal of merit and patriotism of Guadalupe Victoria, in honor of the first president of the Nation, design and work of José María Guerrero, who was engraver of the Mint of Mexico and was in charge of the elaboration of the first coins known as \"Hookneck"\", a fact that is reflected in the design of this piece. Obverse with uniformed bust in military attire looking to the right, on the reverse side the coat of arms finely executed and of familiar design showing the Republican eagle atop cactus grasping snake in the "\"Hookneck"\" position, double legend around looking to the right, on the outside the legend "\"J. GUERRERO DRAWED AND ENGRAVED IN MEXICO. A. OF 1824 AND DEDICATED IT TO THE MERIT AND PATRIOTISM OF THE SAME S.E."\", slight marks and cracks of reverse coin, scratches, taps on edge and filings, slightly uncovered of the gilding in high points. A piece of important context and historical value, it can be considered as the first medal minted in the Mexican Republic. We are aware of a second specimen in this finish auctioned by Ponterio & Associates in their auction #109 under lot No. 434 with multiple edge strikes, marks and scratches. Diameter 41 millimeters, weight 34.1 grams."
