MEXICO. KM# 40a (A&C# 1098) – 4 Reales 1733 Mo F. G Aparentemente de fecha 1733 sin ser plenamente identificable el último digito, ceca y ensayador visibles, fuerte corrosión marina. Una nota del consignante menciona su procedencia, Ponterio & Associates, Sale #122 del 28 de septiembre de 2002, Lote No. 405. Rescatada del hundimiento del "East Indiaman Vliegenthart". Apparently dated 1733 with no fully identifiable last digit, mint and assayer visible, strong marine corrosion. A consignor's note mentions its origin, Ponterio & Associates, Sale #122 of September 28, 2002, Lot No. 405. Salvaged from the sinking of the "East Indiaman Vliegenthart". Following is the translated introduction provided at the time prior to the lot: "VLIEGENTHART. A Dutch East Indiaman that sailed from Rammekens, Netherlands, on February 3, 1735 with another treasure ship (Anna Catharina). Within hours, both crashed into a sandbar off the coast of Zeeland and were destroyed. No passengers or crew survived." Without the certificate with which it was first auctioned, 12.1 grams.
