Hadrian (AD 117-138). AR denarius (18mm, 2.91 gm, 1h). NGC VF, scratches. Uncertain Eastern mint, AD 124-128. HADRIANVS-AVGVSTVS, bare head of Hadrian left / COS III, galley with eleven sets of oars right. RIC II.3 -. RSC -. Cf. CNG Auction 61, lot 1792 var. (bust type). Apparently unpublished. An issue of captivating, unusual Eastern style. Beautiful subtle golden toning surrounding Hadrian's bust and above the ship on the reverse. Perhaps one of the more realistic portraits of Hadrian in the plentiful series of his coinage.
