CYPRUS, Kition. Uncertain King. Mid-late 5th century BC. AR Stater (21.5mm, 10.93 g, 9h). Herakles, wearing lion skin, in fighting stance right, holding club and bow; ankh-like symbol to right / Lion attacking stag crouching right; Phoenician legend l ml-nb'l[...] above; all in dotted square within incuse square. Zapiti & Michaelidou 12 var. (legend); SNG Copenhagen 19 (Baalmelek II). Lightly toned, typical die wear, overstruck on uncertain issue. VF.
Although SNG Copenhagen attributed this issue to Baalmelek II, the legend on the reverse does not spell that king's name. Interestingly, it does not seem to spell any name of a recognized king, and thus may be blundered.
