JUDAEA, Neapolis. Æ (26mm, 11.54 g). Countermarks applied early 2nd century AD. Eagle standing facing, head left, wings spread in circular countermark, head left in oval countermark / Thunderbolt in rectangular countermark; VI or VII in rectangular countermark. Howgego 343, 155, 475, and –. Host Poor, c/m's Fine to Near VF.

From the D.K. Collection.

The thunderbolt and eagle countermarks may have been applied for the Legio II Fulminata, but Howgego also suggests that they more likely relate to the cult of Zeus Hypsistos.
