Education: Oxford, Richard Foxe [Fox] (c.1448–1528), Lord Privy Seal to Henry VII and Henry VIII, statesman, diplomatist and philanthropist, Bishop of Winchester; founder of Corpus Christi College - the Tercentenary of the foundation celebrated, large silver Medal, 1817, by G. F. Pidgeon, bust of the blind Foxe, almost full face, eyes closed, wearing ecclesiastical cap and gown, rev. legend on tablet within wreath, 70mm. The medal is clearly signed PIDGEON. SCULP., on the obverse, the attribution to E. Avern (Brown, Eimer) is the result of confusion with the abbreviated signature on the reverse, in Latin, "RB ET R AVRRR AAA FF", for "Rundell, Bridge and Rundell. Goldsmiths and Silversmiths". The portrait is after a painting by Joannes Corvus (fl. 1512 – 1544). The tercentenary was celebrated on 18 June 1817.
