The medal is clearly signed PIDGEON. SCULP., on the obverse, the attribution to E. Avern (Brown, Eimer) is the result of confusion with the abbreviated signature on the reverse, in Latin, "RB ET R AVRRR AAA FF", for "Rundell, Bridge and Rundell. Goldsmiths and Silversmiths". The portrait is after a painting by Joannes Corvus (fl. 1512 – 1544). The tercentenary was celebrated on 18 June 1817.
