Jules Renkin (1864-1938) was Prime Minister for the Belgian Colonies. SS Bruxellesville was later sold and, under the ownership of the Spanish Compañía Trasmediterranea, was bombed and beached in March 1943; re-floated but bombed again and sunk, May 1943. The SS Léopoldville was built by Harland & Wolff, Belfast for the Compagnie Belge Maritime du Congo. She was sold in 1914. The medal was commissioned by Sir Alfred Jones, Chairman of the Compagnie Belge Maritime du Congo.
