Photography: Scotland, ornate oval gilt-silver award at the Edinburgh Industrial Exhibition, 1899, engraved arms within floral border, rev. engraved, AWARDED TO ALEXR ALLAN FOR PHOTOGRAPHY, 49 x 34mm., good very fine; Sheffield, silver award medal of Photography Magazine to T. G. Hibbert, 1900, by J. A. Restall, muse of Photography seated by camera and prints, rev. details, 45.5mm., in case of issue; The Amateur Photographer & Cinematographer medal, uniface bronzed and almost square plaquette man lifts a photographic plate from a camera, laurel spray below and legend, named in flourishing scroll on reverse, P. Alexander Allen - The Scottish National Portrait Gallery possess a bronze award to Allen from the same exhibition. It is believed he was an architect, originally from Cambusnethan, who moved to Edinburgh around 1890, where he designed many buildings including houses in Comely Bank Avenue, Edinburgh.
Thomas George Hibbert - In 2020 the Sheffield Photographic Society were able to acquire an archive of antique photographic equipment including lantern slides from the estate of T. G. Hibbert. The family once owned Hibbert's Art Shop (later Greaves) on Norfolk Street, Sheffield, whilst Hibbert was also a prolific art dealer.
The Amateur Photographer was a photographic journal published in London. Between the years of 1927-1945 it carried the title Amateur Photographer & Cinematographer. P. S. Brandon exhibited at the Royal Photographic Society in the 1930's. The plaquette is made by the electrotype process.
