Giovanni Lomazzi was born in Antignate in the province of Como. He served two apprenticeships, at the foundry of Giuseppe Speluzzi and the laboratorio di cesello Michieli. Having worked in Venice he moved to Milan in 1883 to open his own "fonderia artistica e studio di cesello G. Lomazzi".
