Thomson was head of the Chemistry Department at King's College and later vice-principal, which he held until retirement in 1914. The medal was instituted in his honour to be awarded to the most distinguished chemistry students of King's College.
W. G. Plummer, PhD was author or co-author of several scientific papers; The Crystalline Structure of Hexachlorobenzene and 2 Hexabromobenzene, 1925; The Crystal Structure of Solid Methane, 1928 and 1929.
Walter Ryley Pratt (1887-1959), youngest of four children to Charles Abraham and Betsy Ryley Pratt. He married Nellie Lawrence (1890-1982), in 1916.
