NORMAN. William I 'the Conqueror'. 1066-1087. AR Penny (19mm, 1.31 g, 9h). Two Stars type (BMC v). London mint; Godwine, moneyer. Struck circa 1074-1077. Crowned facing bust; stars flanking / + GODPINE ON LIIN, cross botonnée with central annulet over quadrilateral with incurved sides. Cf. SCBI 12 (Ashmolean), 83 (for type); BMC 346 var. (obv. legend); North 845; SCBC 1254. Lightly toned, small mark on obverse. VF.
