A Great War, Military Cross Group to the 9th Lancers for Reconnaissance Patrols who also saw service in WW2 awarded to Captain (later Honorary Major) William Thomas Pott, 9th Lancers, comprising; Military Cross GVR, unnamed as issued, 1914‑15 Star, (2. Lieut. W.T. Pott. 9/Lrs.), 1914‑1920 British War and Victory Medals, (Capt. W.T. Pott.)1939‑45 Defence Medal, 1939‑45 War Medal unnamed as issued, contemporarily mounted for wear, lightly toned very fine. (6).

Lt (A/Capt.) William Thomas Pott, Lancers, Special Reserve.
For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty at various times when on important reconnaissance's. On one occasion, when acting as second in command of a Cavalry Brigade, seeing that troops on his right were retiring, he immediately went forward, and, assisted by an N.C.O., held on to the position occupied by two troops of his Battalion, beating back a heavy attack and saving the line from being turned. His courage and resource were most marked.
Captain William Thomas Pott, 9th Lancers landed in France on the 29th of May 1915. He was awarded
the Military Cross in the London Gazette of the 26th of July 1918.
He was Gazetted to the Territorial Army Special from the Reserve of Officer to be Captain 16th January 1940. He relinquished his Commission on the 21st of January 1944 having attained the age limit and was granted the Honorary Rank of Major.
He was a Lloyds Underwriter he died on the 4th of February 1967.
