This Military Medal Gazette is for Actions on the Somme. The 1st Battalion Leicester Regiment in September 1916 were in action near Trones Wood. They were in action with a Tank on the Ginchy‑Leuze Road. They attacked the Quadrilateral on the 15th of September. Casualties for the month, 456 all ranks.


Private William Walter Clay landed in France with the 1st Battalion Leicestershire Regiment on the 9th of September 1914 his Medal Index Card shows that he is entitled to the 1914 Star and clasp and the British War and Victory Medals. He was discharged on the 18th of August 1919 with a Silver War Badge.


MiD and Croix de Guerre not confirmed, sold with copy Medal Index Card and London Gazette entries for the Military Medal, worthy of further research, later served with the Notts & Derby Regiment as Private 6/13487.
