The OBE, Order of St. John, Legion d' Honneur, World War Two Territorial group of 10 awarded to Colonel Ronald William Raven Royal Army Medical Corps (T.F.) comprising OBE, (Military Division), Officer (Brother) of the Order of St John, 1939‑45 Star, Africa Star, 1st Army clasp, Italy Star, 1939‑45 Defence Medal, 1939‑45 War Medal with MiD emblem, 1953 Coronation Medal, Territorial Decoration, EiiR, dated (1955), Chevalier of the Legion d'Honneur, all unnamed as issued, contemporarily Court Mounted for wear, lightly toned very fine (10).

Ronald William Raven was born on 28 July 1904 and educated at Ulverston Grammar School. He trained at St. Bartholomew's Hospital where he qualified with the conjoint diploma in 1928. He was demonstrator in anatomy at Barts from 1929 to 1931, registrar in statistics at the National Radium Commission and held junior surgical appointments 1931 to 1935. Appointed assistant surgeon at Gordon Hospital in 1935, he then became assistant surgeon at the Royal Cancer Hospital from 1939 to 1946 and surgeon, 1946‑1962. During the Second World War he served in the RAMC in North Africa, Italy and Malta and, having been mentioned in despatches, was awarded the OBE in 1946. After the war he became a colonel in the Territorial Army and was a consultant at the Royal Star and Garter Home for Disabled Sailors, Soldiers and Airmen 1948‑1969.


He died on 24 October 1991.


Sold with Original Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine Warrant, original Buckingham Place award notification for OBE and original award certificate for the Order of St John Officer (Brother). 4 Medical medals and one 1950 London International Stamp Exhibition Medal.
