An 1879 Zulu and Egypt group of 3 awarded to lance Corporal Sydney John Banks, Army Service Corps, and 8th Company Commissariat & Transport Corps, comprising South Africa Medal 1877‑79, one clasp, 1879, (T/1469. Lce. Corpl. S.J. Banks. A.S. Corps), Egypt Medal 1882‑89, dated reverse, one clasp, The Nile 1884‑85, (1469 Pte S.J. Banks 8th Co. C. & T.C.), Khedives Star, unnamed as issued, very fine (3).



Sydney John Banks was born in Bethnal Green, London in 1858, stating on his enlistment to the Army Service Corps on the 11th of January 1877 that he was a Clerk. He served Home from the 11th of January 1877 to the 3rd of June 1879, South Africa 4th of June 1879 to the 21st of February 1880, Home 22nd of February 1880 to the 15th of August 1882, Egypt 16th of August 1882 to the 16th of March 1883, Home 17th of March 1883 to the 7th of March 1889. He was discharged on the 7th of March 1889 after exactly 12 years' service with the Colours. His papers confirm the award of the "Zulu 1879 Medal, Egypt Medal and Egyptian Bronze Star".
