No. 650382 C.S.M. Arthur Edward Charman, D.C.M. M.M., 1/21st Bn. Lond. R.

For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty after an advance. Most of the officers were casualties, and the company, which had suffered severely, was exposed to counter‑attack on its left flank from an enemy point. He promptly took measures to deal with the situation, and with great courage and coolness organised and led bombing attacks when the enemy countered. He behaved splendidly and performed most valuable service.

Distinguished Conduct Medal The London Gazette 28th of March 1918. 650382 Sjt. A.E. Charman MM (Thornton Heath).

For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He showed great coolness in handling his platoon during a very critical period. At a time when information was of the greatest value, he continually crossed over the open under close‑range machine‑gun fire and kept his Company Commander informed of the enemy's movement. His example had a splendid effect on his men.
