A "It's a Long Way To Tipperary" 1914 Star, Aug‑Nov Clasp Long Service Group of 4 awarded to Warrant Officer Class 2, Company Serjeant Major, Tame, 2nd and 1st Battalion's Connaught Rangers and Worcestershire Regiment comprising, 1914‑ Star, with original Aug‑Nov Clasp, (10752 Sjt S. Tame. 2/Conn: Rang.), 1914‑1920 British War and Victory Medals, (10752 W.O. Cl.2. E.H. Tame. Conn. Rang.), Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, GVR, (7143435 W.O.Cl.2. E.H. Tame Worc. R.), heavily toned, very fine (4).



Notes made on two Medal Index Cards for 10752 Stephen Tame is and 10752 Edward H. Tame are annotated "Identical". 1914 Star confirms 2nd Battalion Connaught Rangers ‑Medal Index Card for E.H. Tame confirms transfer to 1st Battalion Connaught Rangers, both cards confirm Aug‑Nov Clasp.


C.S.M. Tame landed in France with the 2nd Battalion on the 14th of August 1914 at Boulogne‑Sur‑Mer as part of the 5th Brigade in the 2nd Division with the BEF. It's marching song "It's a Long Way to Tipperary" became a famous Music Hall, and indeed still today, Great War song.


After taking part in the Retreat from Mons and by October 1914, the Battalion was involved in the fighting around Ypres. Following severe losses in the battles of 1914, the 2nd Battalion was disbanded, with survivors transferring into the 1st Battalion. In turn, the 1st Battalion was redeployed to the Middle East in 1916, where it fought primarily in Mesopotamia as part of the British Tigris Corps.
