MS62 | Charles II (1660-85), silver Medallic Pattern, 1660, by Thomas Simon, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right, CAROLVS . II . D . G . MAG BR . FR . ET . HI . REX ., rev. crowned square-topped shield, date either side of crown, MAGNA OPERA DOMINI, edge plain though appears to have some partial graining, weight 7.43g (Lessen [1995], type Ba; Nathanson pp. 34; MI I, 463/59; Eimer -; North 2776). Toned, has been graded by NGC as MS62.

NGC Certification 6321659-003 ticketed as a Broad N.2776 Silver Pattern plain edge.

Marvin Lessen proved in his article once and for all that these patterns once thought to be for Twenty Shilling gold pieces were in fact medallic and more likely relate to the Restoration of the Monarchy. They do not feature in the older ESC or Bull catalogues.
