George III (1760-1820), bronzed proof copper Penny, 1797, 'Cartwheel' type, bronzed tone, laureate bust right, Latin legend on raised rim surrounding, GEORGIUS III. D: G. REX., rev. Britannia seated on rocks facing left with shield and trident, arm extended holding olive branch, sea with ship in background, SOHO below right, inscription BRITANNIA above on raised rim, date below, edge plain (Peck 1122 KP17; S.3777). A superb example with attractive bronze toning, some light surface residue, extremely fine.

The Latin legend translates as "George the Third by the Grace of God, King".
