SICILY, Messana. 420-413 BC. AR Tetradrachm (24mm, 17.21 g, 11h). The nymph Messana, holding kentron in left hand and reins in both, driving slow biga of mules right; MEΣΣA-NA above and before, two dolphins confronted in exergue / Hare springing right; MEΣ-ΣA-NI-O-N around; below, dolphin right. Caltabiano Series XIV, 524 (D208/R221); SNG ANS –; SNG Lloyd –; Rizzo –; SNG Manchester 424; Dewing 649; Ognina 123 (all from the same dies). Good VF, toned, a little die wear on obverse.
