Great Britain Token Medallion (1827) Obverse: Frederick, Duke of York, was the son of George III and a British military commander with some notable defeats to his credit. In life he was the subject of some good-natured fun-poking. It is said he was the subject of the well-known nursery rhyme: Oh The Grand Old Duke of York, he had ten thousand men. He marched them up to the top of the hill and he marched them down again. And when they were up, they were up; and when they were down, they were down; And when they were only half way up, they were neither up nor down. Bust Left. Lettering: FREDERICK DUKE OF YORK. Reverse Lettering: BORN AUGUST 16 1763. DIED JAN 5TH 1827. THE SOLDIERS FRIEND. Edge Reeded. Bronze 5.90g.
