Marcian. A.D. 450-457. AE4 half-centenionalis or nummus (9.4 mm, .89 g, 6 h). Constantinople mint. D N VAQCIMTVS P F AVG (sic), pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust of Marcian right / RIC X monogram #2 of Marcian, somewhat crudely expressed; above, cross; all within laurel-wreath // CON . RIC X 545; Cf. LRBC 2250. EF for type, dark green patina.
The description for this piece "fits" very closely with the cited RIC/LRBC attributions as an official issue piece from Constantinople (with a garbled obverse legend). The opinion that it may actually be from an Ostrogothic western mint (based on style) may or may not be important to consider. It is possible that an unofficial issue from a western source copied the Constantinople type right down to the "CON" exergual mint mark.
