According to ancient writers (Plut. Mul virt. 255 AD; Polyain VIII, 37; St. B., Lampsakos), the city got its name from Lampsake, daughter of Mandron, which came to the city after the Phocaians. The Persian king Artaxerkes gave the city to Themistokles, who was sentenced to death for collaborating with the Persians. It is also an indication of the high tax assets that the city paid to the Attica-Delos Union. Lampsacus electron staters were started to be used from the 5th century BC. shaped. This coin is undoubtedly one of the most important examples of these electrons.
