Docimeum was probably founded by Antigonos Dokimos, general of the Thracian king Lysimachus, with Macedonian settlers in the early Hellenistic period. Also, during the Roman Imperial period, locals were proud of their Macedonian heritage and minted coins showing their ethnic origins, as seen on our coin legend.
