ΦIΛIΠ-ΠOY, Philip II, wearing kausia and chlamys, raising his right hand, riding a horse walking to left, M below horse's raised foreleg (Le Rider 49 (D27/R42)).An exceptional example, very well-struck in high relief on good metal, with a fantastic head of Zeus and a well-detailed representation of Philip II on horseback, good extremely fine, superb.
The horseman on the reverse of this coin, from one of Philip's earliest issues, is so well-detailed that is assumed to be a representation of Philip's arrival on his accession to the throne.The above example has been so well-struck from fresh dies that the facial features of the King can be clearly seen.
