ANCIENT COINS. GREEK COINS. Kyrenaika, Kyrene (c.525-480 B.C.), Silver Didrachm, 8.47g, 6h.Silphium plant with four leaves, a fruit on left and right. Rev. Gorgon's head facing, with tongue protruding, the hair made up of pellets, all within a dotted square within a deep incuse square (cf BMC 10, pl. II, 18 (tetradrachm); Prospero, lot 630 (tetradrachm, but these dies)).Of wonderful archaic style, struck from the same dies as the incredibly rare Tetradrachm, toned, very fine.Of the highest rarity, apparently the only recorded example.
