VICTORIA CONSTANTINI AVG, Victory seated right on a cuirass, a shield resting beside it, inscribing VOT / XXX on a second shield supported by Genius, SMNC in exergue (RIC 175; C 617 var (VOT XX on reverse); Depeyrot 44/1).With a superb portrait of fine style, a few very light marks, broad flan, lustrous, good extremely fine.A very impressive example of this famous issue.Rare.

The uplifted gaze of Constantine on this issue can be seen as symbolic of his religious conversion and devotion.It could also be a reference back to the heroic ideals of Hellenistic portraiture, also used by Alexander the Great.This imagery would not doubt have appealed to a wide contemporary audience.
